Construction magnate Demján becomes richest Hungarian
The latest annual list of the top 100 richest Hungarians is led by construction magnate Sándor Demján with assets of Ft 260 billion (€1,03 billion, $1,45 billion), the list compiled by Hungary’s business daily Napi Gazdaság said on Wednesday.
Demján replaced the banker and food industry giant Sándor Csányi, who came in second with assets of Ft 140 billion (€560 million, $782.6 million). Demján topped the list largely because the value of his construction company Tri-Gránit grew almost €1.6 billion ($2.2 billion) last year. Gábor Várszegi, who owns the retailer-cum-property holding company Fotex was third with Ft 90 billion forints (€360 million, $503.7 million), followed by Tamás Leisztinger, the majority owner of holding company Forrás with Ft 70 billion (€280 million, $391.5 million), and Gábor Széles Ft 62.5 billion (€248 million, $349.5 million), who owns the OEM Videoton. At the bottom of the list is Tamás Kieselbach, one of Hungary’s best known gallery owners and publishers with assets of Ft 4.3 billion (€17.2 million, $24 million). (Napi Gazdaság)
