2012 household spending on consumption falls 2.1% in real terms

Hungarian households' spending on consumption fell 2.1%, adjusted for the effect of inflation, to a monthly HUF 65,790 per member last year, preliminary data compiled by the Central Statistics Office (KSH) shows. In real terms, spending on food edged down 0.6%, spending on housing and energy fell 1.3%, spending on clothing dropped 7.2%. Spending on transport fell 0.7% in real terms and spending on telecom services dropped 2.5%. Spending on alcohol and tobacco fell the most, dropping 8.1%. The only item recording a rise, of 1.0% in real terms, was health. As a proportion of total spending per household member, expenditures on housing and energy came to 27.1% and spending on food accounted for 24.6% Transport spending made up 11.1% of the total, and telecom made up 6.6%.
