15% of Hungarians are weekly lottery players
According to a recent poll, 15% of the Hungarian population buy a lottery ticket every week, and 10% a few times a month. The most popular game is 5/90.
Based on a sample of 1,000 respondents, more than half (57%) of the Hungarians who play lottery buy 5/90, the so-called "ötöslottó". The next most popular game is 6/45 (39%), 7/36 (or Skandináv, 27%) and Eurojackpot (17%). More than 40% of the population never plays lottery, most of them because they cannot afford to buy any, online portal index.hu reports, based on data provided by Závecz Research.
As for the prizes, only 6% have won above HUF 100,000 , 23% an amount between HUF 10,000-100,000 and more than two-thirds won sums below HUF 10,000. The vast majority (73%) think that the draws are fair, while 15% are skeptical, and believe that the big jackpots are won by insiders.
