Promo wins tender to organize €1mln Tokaj promotion campaign

Hungarian public relations company Promo Kft has won a tender to organize a €1 million promotion campaign for Tokaj wine in 2007-2009, business daily Napi Gazdaság reported.
The tender was called by two winegrowing associations in the Tokaj region. The associations plan to pay for some of the campaign with EU funding. Despite the fact that Tokaj wines have won awards all over the world, they still lack a presence among wine professionals, Balázs Szűcs, who works for the company that organized the tender, told the paper.
Promo will prepare posters and brochures, organize exhibitions, wine-tasting events and supermarket specials in Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic for the campaign. Germany is the world's biggest wine importer and Poland has traditionally bought much of Hungary's Tokaj exports, but the Czech Republic is an "emerging market" in the sense of Tokaj sales, Szűcs said. Promo will also set up a website.
The campaign will not focus on any specific brand of Tokaj wine, but on the variety itself, Szűcs said.
