Sales of house brand products in Hungary were up 6% over the last year as compared to the preceding year, reaching HUF 492 billion, market researcher Nielsen said yesterday, according to reports.

Some 28% of retailers’ food turnover was made up of house brand sales, Nielsen said, adding that sales of household chemicals and cosmetics made up a little more than 18% of the total category.

According to Nielsen, retailers faced challenges last year in selling some house brands, such as health and beauty products, even if they were 40% cheaper than branded products, Hungarian news agency MTI reported.
