Such was chosen for the post by the public broadcaster's professional supervisory board and was approved by a lay members delegated by civil and religious groups with just enough votes on July 10. His official registration, however, suffered delay as two members of the lay body appealed against the decision, claiming that one of the votes was invalid and demanding a new round of voting. Such received support from both the opposition and governing members of the professional board and is regarded by media experts as a non-partisan figure. Some members of the lay board, however, challenged his appointment in court. The cash-strapped public broadcaster had until his appointment operated without a president since June 2005, when the term of its previous president Katalin Kondor, appointed under the administration of Viktor Orbán (1998-2002) and seen as having steered radio towards the right, came to an end.
