Number of E.ON clients with unpaid bills jumps 20% since 2009

In Hungary

The number of retail clients of electricity and gas distributor E.ON Hungária who are more than 30 days behind on payments has risen 20% over the past two years, spokeswoman Nikoletta Egyházi said.

E.ON shut off gas or electricity supply to 55,000 clients last year for failing to pay their bills on time.

From July 1, electricity and gas distributors may cease services of clients more than 60 days behind on payments, down from 90 days earlier.

Among E.ON's client are 80,000 "protected consumers" – disadvantaged people guaranteed certain discounts and services under the law – more than 20 times the number two years earlier.
