Gov't to allocate 5% of development funding in 2007-2013 to tourism

In Hungary

Hungary's government aims to allocate 5% of all development funding during the 2007-2013 EU budget period for tourism projects, up from 1.8-2% of funding currently allocated to the sector, head of the Hungarian Tourism Office Zoltán Somogyi told a trade fair on Friday.

By 2013, Hungary's tourism officials aim to boost the tourism sector's contribution to GDP from 8.3% to 10%. Other goals are to raise the average amount spent by tourists to €500 per visit, to create more jobs in the sector and to attract tourists to more places in Hungary as well as bring them to the country during the off-season. Plans include completing ten big projects and renovating 6-8 historical thermal baths by 2013, Somogyi said.
