10,000 set for 6 p.m. Opera House in Budapest
More than 10,000 people signed a Facebook page saying they would appear at an anti-government demonstration at 6 p.m. today in front of the Hungarian Opera House in Budapest.
The event takes place on the anniversary of one of the first mass demonstrations against this government – a protest against the new constitution held on January 2, 2012.
According to the Facebook page for the event, “by the end of 2014 it has become undeniable that the elite of Hungarian politics, economics and intellectuals do not possess the knowledge” that would offer solutions for Hungary’s problems.
The stage for the 6 p.m. demo will face Oktogon tér on Andrássy út, and organizers asked that protesters arrive from that Metro station, as the M1 Metro will not stop at the Operaház station.
According to the reports of Hungarian online daily hvg.hu, a simultaneous demo will be held in PĂ©cs too.
Anti-government demonstrations of tens of thousands people, and in one case 100,000, began on October 26, with opposition to a proposed internet tax, which was since abandoned by the government. Demonstrators have since made it clear that they have a multitude of problems with the current leadership.
