In Hungary, the proportion of women among songwriters ranges from 15-17%, according to a compilation published on the music industry blog of publisher Artisjus for International Women's Day.
This figure is an improvement over previous decades, but clearly still low. According to an article published on dalszerzo.hu, only 5% of the authors registered before 2005 were women. In 2020, more composers were registered than ever before, and the number of newly registered women also rose to 338, accounting for 21%.
There are currently 4,101 female songwriters and composers in Artisjus' database. Some 42% only write lyrics, 28% are just composing, while 30% are doing both.
