Central budget funding for the city of Budapest could be cut by almost HUF 100 billion next year, daily Népszabadság said on Wednesday.

Central budget funding for the city government could be cut by HUF 50 billion, while funding for the capital's district government's could be reduced by HUF 47 billion, the paper learnt.

The city government's budget - HUF 180 billion-200 billion until now - could be cut by one-fourth, the paper said, citing calculations by a government ministry that was distributed to district councils by the Budapest Association of Local Governments (BOSz).

The state wants to cut off all funding for the capital's troubled transport company BKV in 2013 even though it needs HUF 73 billion in support in addition to its own revenue, the paper said.
