SPAR plans new openings

Despite speculations that grocery chain SPAR would close units due to the recently approved legislation restricting retailers from opening on Sundays, SPAR is planning to open three supermarkets and three units operating gas stations this year, Hungarian online daily Origo reported today.
The first unit is scheduled to open on January 22. SPAR has supported family-run retailers for the past few years and is committed to continuing this work, Origo said. The daily added that the chain has reported losses for the past couple of years, and is expected to face a 20-fold growth in its supervisory fees due to the recently approved legislation.
