The last version of the Energy Policy dates back to 1993, while international and domestic conditions changed substantially since that time. The energy demand and the environmental damages, as a consequence, decreased, private actors appeared on the energy market, and the conditions for competition on the market changed, while a growing import-dependence and a still high rate of fossil energy remained. The main objective of the strategy is to find a balance between security, competitiveness and sustainability in the energy sector. The document is a framework strategy, the detailed policies and measures are in other documents, like the Hungarian Renewable Energy Strategy and National Strategy on Energy Efficiency and the Energy Efficiency Action Plan.
