National mineral asset management action plan to be drawn up

Hungary's action plan for using its mineral assets is expected to be drawn up and submitted to the government in the first half of 2012 as part of the National Energy Strategy, National Development Ministry state secretary in charge of climate and energy affairs Janos Bencsik said in Budapest on Friday.

Speaking at a conference of the Mining, Energy and Industrial Workers Union, the state secretary said the government has already taken a decision on the preparation of the plan and Parliament will take a decision as well soon.

The aim is that power generation should be partly based on fossil energy resources that can be produced in the country, Bencsik said. To that end, the domestic mineral assets need to be reassessed and an action plan must be drawn up on how to utilize these assets in a sustainable manner, he added.

The work groups have been set up, and the preliminary data collection is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
