MEPs concerned about loss of jobs at Volkswagen

At Wednesday's meeting of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs, the Chairman and the Members expressed their grave concern about the loss of jobs at the Volkswagen plant in Forest (Belgium) and in other European undertakings.

Following the committee meeting, the Chair and the Coordinators of the Committee adopted the following statement: "The Committee stresses the need for all undertakings to respect the provisions of the directives on information and consultation of workers. The Committee expresses its solidarity with workers whose livelihoods are threatened by industrial adjustments. Furthermore, the Committee believes current events highlight the urgency for the Council to reach an agreement with the European Parliament on the adoption of the European Globalization Adjustment Fund."
