Labor shortage triggers better pay for student workers
The labor shortage in Hungary is becoming a grave issue, so much so that students are frequently being sought for positions previously filled by full-time employees, national daily Népszabadság reported today. In such cases, students can earn above the Hungarian minimum wage, the report noted.
Due to the high demand for student workers, their wages have risen 15–20% higher than the minimum wage level in Hungary, the daily reported. Student positions chiefly require physical work, it added.
Citing unnamed employers, the daily reported that the ratio of students in the Hungarian labor market is believed to have increased recently by approximately 20–30%. Demand for student workers has been increasing so fast, it added, that agencies recruiting student workers can hardly find enough students to fill positions.
