While the huge disparities between Hungary's regions must be eliminated, the earlier philosophy of equal development for all areas should be abandoned, Regional Development Minister István Kolber told national daily Népszabadság. The country's new development plan, now being discussed in Parliament, will ensure increased competitiveness and more harmonious development across the country, the minister told the paper. But differences between areas will never be entirely eliminated, he said. The focus has been shifted on efforts to make regions more competitive, and if one of those is more dynamic than others, it should not be suppressed just to maintain an equal level, Kolber said.
