Govt approves report on launch of Start program

Conferences

The government approved at a cabinet meeting on Thursday a report on the launch of the Start work program, a public work scheme that aims to bring the long-term unemployed back to the workplace, the Office of the Government Spokesman said.

The Start program will offer the long-term unemployed, including members of Hungary's Roma minority and unskilled laborers, jobs that pay more than social support, the office said.

The government aims to give work to everybody who wants to work, mainly in the construction and farm sectors, while keeping in mind that public employment is not the goal, but a tool to bring participants back to the primary labor market, it added.

The government also decided on a state grant to cover 10% of the cost of a HUF 2.7 billion investment by Nokia Siemens Networks Kft that creates 224 jobs.
