Food retailers sign code of ethics
Five associations of companies representing two-thirds of Hungary's FMCG sales signed on Tuesday a code of ethics, under which they promise to refrain from pressuring suppliers to deliver cheaper, lower-quality goods and pledge to make it clear to customers which products are genuine branded goods and which are cheap imitations.
Farming Minister József Gráf said the code of ethics aims to ensure that a good part of Hungary's food market is made of high-quality Hungarian products by blocking the sale of goods which do not meet quality requirements.
Retail legislation has required companies with a significant market power to set up a code of ethics. A 20-member body will also be set up soon to resolve disputes.
