Karnice I will have a net installed capacity of 30MW and is expected to become operational in late 2009. The new wind farm represents an expected investment of 443 million krone. “Poland is an interesting market offering attractive settlement terms, and we are pleased to initiate the construction of our second wind farm in the country.

The project is an important step in our strategy for expansion in renewable sources of energy,” said DONG Energy CEO Anders Eldrup. Karnice I, which was given final regulatory approval in the spring of 2008, will be located in the municipality of Karnice in north-eastern Poland. DONG Energy is already the operator of nearby Lake Ostrowo, a 31MW wind farm, which became operational in 2007.

In addition to Karnice I, DONG Energy’s current projects include the Storrun onshore wind farm in Sweden (30MW), the Horns Rev II offshore wind farm in Denmark (209MW) as well as the Gunfleet Sands I and II (108MW and 65MW) and the Walney (151MW) offshore wind farms in the UK. (press release)
