Bosnian prime minister resigns

Conferences

Bosnian Prime Minister Nikola Spiric resigned Thursday to protest the reform proposed recently by the top international envoy here.

“I have submitted my resignation to the presidency and expect that the procedure will be conducted in accordance with the law,” Spiric told a news conference. Slovak diplomat Miroslav Lajcak, who is the top international administrator in Bosnia, introduced new measures recently aimed at improving the efficiency of the central government. Bosnian Serb politicians fear that Lajcak’s measures would diminish their influence in the country’s central institutions. Several have threatened to quit their jobs and block government functions unless Lajcak reverses his decision. (people.com.cn)
