Zona Service Consortium, a consortium of tax companies which recently won a four-plus-one-year contract to provide services to arrivals at Budapest's Ferihegy Airport, plans to spend Ft 1.2 billion on vehicles within a year, István Veres, a representative of the consortium, said on Wednesday.

In its offer, Zona Service said it would expand its fleet of 150 cars to 200 within a year and bring the average age of the fleet to less than six months. Veres confirmed the company would buy 172 Ford Mondeos and 28 Opel Zafiras. He added that Zona had already ordered 10 black cabs from the UK to be used for marketing.
Veres declined to reveal the revenue the company expects, but said it would become profitable in 2008. BAA-owned Budapest Airport Zrt, which called the tender for the taxi services, said after Zona was announced the winner that taxi fees for arriving passengers would fall by 31% on average. Zona will start services at the airport on August 15.
