Ryanair launches Frankfurt-Balaton flight

Ryanair, Europe's largest low-cost airline, on Tuesday launched a regular flight between Frankfurt-Hahn airport and FlyBalaton airport at Sármellék near Lake Balaton in west Hungary.

Ryanair has been operating another scheduled flight between London-Stansted and the airport near Balaton, one of Hungary's main tourist hot-spots.
The new flight, operated three times a week, is expected to carry 40,000 passengers a year, Ryanair's sales director for Central Europe Tomasz Kulakowski said, adding that the new service created 40 jobs. Next year, Ryanair expects to carry a combined 80,000 passengers on the two flights to FlyBalaton.
Richárd Richter, Deputy CEO of airport operator Cape Clair Aviation Kft, said the FlyBalaton airport expected to handle 70,000 passenger this year, compared to 25,000 in 2005. The airport's technical upgrade to handle international cargo service will be completed next autumn, he added
