Pécs-Pogány airport plans Ft 800 mln in investments

The Pécs-Pogány International Airport plans to spend Ft 800 million by the spring of 2007 to build two new hangars, purchase equipment necessary to operate the airport in the winter and start work on a base for hobbyists, Gyula Ács, head of the municipality-owned company operating the airport, said.
Almost all of the investments will be paid for by the local council, Ács said. The airport, which started operations in March, expects to attract an annual 100,000 passengers in just a few years. However, the targeted increase will require the airport to maintain a high level of service, Ács said.
Since the end of March, the airport has included on its timetable four Pécs-Vienna flights a week. In future, flights could be added to seaside destinations in Greece or Bulgaria, as well as to Holland. Ács noted that some 30,000 Dutch citizens have bought property in the region around the airport.
The councils of Baranya County and the City of Pécs have so far invested Ft 4 billion at the airport.
