MÁV said it expects to decide on the winner of the tender during the same month, allowing the project to be completed by December 2006. The tender winner will have to connect Ferihegy’s Terminal 1 with the nearby Szemeretelep rail station within the framework of the renovation of the rail line running between the village of Vecsés on the edge of the airport and Budapest’s District 9.
MÁV noted that it had originally planned for the rapid rail service to start in autumn, but delayed the process for a short time after being allowed the opportunity to expand the technical content of the project to include the renovation of the Vecsés-District 9 stretch, thereby making it eligible for EU funding. MÁV said the change had required it to change the tender documentation and obtain the necessary permits, which resulted in the short delay.
