Italia Progetti buys military airbase near Veszprém

Italy's Italia Progetti has won a tender to buy an old military airbase near Veszprém, west Hungary with a bid of Ft 1.31 billion, business daily Napi Gazdaság reported on Wednesday.
Italia Progetti has already put Ft 50 million down for the tender and must pay the balance of the purchase price by September 18, András Iványi, mayor of Szentkirályszabadja, where the airport is located, told Napi Gazdaság.
Italia Progetti plans to build the base into a commercial airport capable of handling both passenger and cargo traffic. The Italian company has undertaken to invest Ft 10 billion at the site, including Ft 2 billion-Ft 3 billion in the coming 2-3 years. In addition to developments at the airport, it aims to build a 30,000 square meter logistics center and a hotel on the edge of Veszprém, Napi Gazdaság reported.
The runner-up in the bidding was Buda-west Airport Holding, Iványi said. Ownership of the airbase was transferred from the state to the local councils of Veszprém and Szentkirályszabadja a year earlier.
