HungaroControl announced on Friday that it has signed a €4.9 mln contract to construct a Remote Tower (rTWR) air control system with Norwegian company Indra Navia AS, Hungarian news agency MTI reported.

Indra Navia and its Canadian-based subcontractor, Searidge Technologies, will install an Advanced Surface MovementGuidance and Control System (A-SMGCS) to establish the remote tower in Budapest by March 2016.

Hungarocontrol's virtual tower concept is best suited to airports with medium to large turnover, the announcement said, adding that Hungarian air traffic controllers will be able to guide Budapest Airport’s air traffic from the virtual tower by 2017.
