FlyBalaton airport in western Hungary to operate 24/7

The airport, called FlyBalaton, will provide permanent customs control services and security measures needed by a border crossing point, István Újhelyi said. Sármellék airport last year received 26,000 passengers and is expected to handle some 70,000 this year, Újhelyi said. In 2007, the airport is expected to receive about 100,000 passengers, he added. Újhelyi said the state provided Ft 415 million (€ 1.5 milion) for the airport's development over the past two years, while airport operators invested Ft 2.5 billion (€ 9.15 million). He added that further investments are planned for Sármellék, which would contribute to boosting tourism in the region In May, the airport opened a new passenger terminal slated to handle 300,000 passengers annually.
