An agreement was announced today in a series of negotiations that have been taking place since November 2021 between representatives of the Municipality of Budapest and BKK, as well as representatives of the metropolitan taxi industry and its stakeholders, on the situation of the taxi industry in Budapest.

The parties agreed that the current official fare rate, which is in effect since July 1, 2018, has to be modified as average national earnings, inflation, and fuel prices have all increased significantly over the past four years.

Following earlier agreements on other issues, the parties agreed on the level of the planned tariff increase at today's meeting.

The increase of almost 35% will change the tariff structure as follows: base fare will be increased to HUF 1,000 from HUF 700, kilometer fare will rise to 400 HUF from HUF 300, while the per minute charge will be modified to HUF 100 from HUF 75.

The changes will come into effect on May 9, if the General Assembly of Budapest votes in favor of the negotiated increase next Wednesday.
