Draft decree shows five working day Saturdays in 2012
Hungarians may have to work on five Saturdays next year -- replacement days for an extra day off when a holiday falls close to a weekend -- under a draft decree published on the government's website.
National Economy Minister Gyorgy Matolcsy proposes in the decree making Saturdays on March 24, May 5, October 27, November 10 and December 15 working days. The days are to replace non-working days on Friday, March 16, the day after the March 15 national holiday; Monday, April 30, the day before May Day; Monday, October 22, the day before the October 23 national holiday; Friday, November 2, the day after All Saints Day; and Monday, December 24, the day before Christmas.
Analysts blamed declines in Hungary's industrial output in March 2011 and in December 2010 on working day Saturdays during the two months, based on the assumption that many Hungarians take time off on the Saturdays.
