WEF global competitiveness report shows Hungary improving

The World Economic Forum's Global Competitiveness Report 2011-2012 ranks Hungary in 48th place, up four notches from last year, the director of Kopint-Tárki, reports Realdeal.hu quoting WEF's Hungarian partner.
Éva Pálocz said that Hungary had been improving its position continually since 2008. The positive elements of Hungary's competitiveness are good infrastructure - better motorways and infocommunications - flexible labour market, and good cooperation between universities and companies.
Negative influences on Hungary's competitiveness result from high tax burdens, poor access to EU funds, excessive state participation and low public trust in politics, Palocz said.
Topping the list are Switzerland, Singapore and Sweden. In the central and eastern European region, the Czech Republic leads in 38th position, followed by Poland in 41st. Hungary is trailed by Slovakia, in 69th place.
In the list of 142 countries, Hungary is at 130th place when it comes to public trust, according to the report.
