Varga reaffirms govt intention to reach deal with IMF/EU

The Hungarian government's intention, voiced last November, to reach an agreement with the International Monetary Fund and the European Union remains unchanged, Mihály Varga, who is in charge of talks on precautionary financial assistance from the IMF/EU, said at a forum organised by Portfolio.hu on Tuesday.
Varga said the situation of the Hungarian economy had undoubtedly improved in the past months, but added that "we are far from the ideal position when we can dispose of such external support". The IMF/EU are currently assessing the Hungarian government's negotiating proposals, he said. The Hungarian delegation trusts an agreement will come within reach after the continuation of negotiations, he added.
