Trade union calls demonstration at Suzuki plant

History

The League of Democratic Trade Unions will hold a demonstration on Thursday in front of Suzuki's car factory at Esztergom, north Hungary, over working conditions, daily Magyar Hírlap reported on Wednesday. According to workers belonging to the League, management expectations are too stringent, the paper said. The League expects 205 people to show up. Efficiency and time-completion targets mean that workers have almost no time for bathroom breaks and must work at the weekend, representatives said. Suzuki's deputy CEO István Fórián denied the claim, saying the company ensures two shorter breaks and a 30-minute lunch break every day and schedules workers for Saturdays on a voluntary basis with compensation.
