Three runners remain in Malév race

History

The number of suitors in contention for Malév Zrt, Hungary’s loss-making national airline, has narrowed down to three after the committee assessing the offers of four bidders has recommended the State Privatization and Holding (ÁPV) Zrt to start talks with three of the contenders, daily Napi Gazdaság said, citing an unidentified insider source.

The ÁPV announced an open negotiated procedure on September 7 to sell the state’s 99.95% stake in the air carrier. Of the three short-listed bidders, Ofer Hava, a businessman backed by a group of Hungarian and Irish investors, has put in the highest offer, followed by AirBridge Magyarország Zrt, a company controlled by Russia's Boris Abramovich, Napi Gazdaság said. The offer the Lithuanian LAL Investiciju Valdymas was ranked third, while Sky Alliance Zrt, owned by some 200 Malév pilots, fell out of contention, the paper said. (Napi Gazdaság)
