Taxi drivers to block route to airport

Hungarian taxi drivers are planning a protest that will involve driving in a convoy from central Budapest to the capital’s Liszt Ferenc International Airport, and it is anticipated that they will substantially slow traffic along their route, according to reports. The protest will start around 2 pm.

Hungarian taxis have held more than half a dozen demonstrations this year so far, blocking and slowing traffic throughout the capital. They have been protesting against ride-sharing services, such as Uber, claiming that they operate unlawfully.
Hungarian MPs are planning to discuss changes to related legislation that would practically ban the operations of ride-sharing services in the country. Uber Hungary yesterday sent a letter to the National Development Ministry urging negotiations and proposing taxation of the service.
For those traveling to the airport this afternoon, it is advised to allow for plenty of additional travel time.
