History

Anders Behring Breivik, the suspect in the Norwegian terror attacks on Friday, praised Budapest nightlife and took an interest in Hungarian politics, according to the diary he posted online.

Breivik last visited Budapest in autumn 2009 to celebrate the 30th birthday of his best friend of Hungarian origin. He took a notice in Hungarian right-wing organizations, such as minority parliamentary party Jobbik, and other minor players MIEP and the 64 Counties Movement, Hungarian daily Nepszabadsag reported.

He  also wrote about Hungary’s 150 years of Ottoman occupation, and about the situation of Hungarian Roma, and praised Nobel Prize-winning Jewish author Imre Kertesz.
