Ministry considering merger of energy, mining authorities

The National Development Ministry on Wednesday said it is considering establishing a unified energy authority with the merger of the Hungarian Energy Office, the Hungarian Mining and Geological Office and the National Atomic Energy Office.
The ministry will take a definitive stand on the matter only after professional consultations, and the final decision will be taken by the government, according to the statement.
Attila Aszódi, the director of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics' Nuclear Technology Institute, said in a statement on Monday that merging the National Atomic Energy Office with the Hungarian Energy Office would go against international treaties and directives.
