Israel's deputy foreign minister visits Budapest

History

Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon met with his Hungarian counterpart Zsolt Németh in Budapest on Tuesday, reports The Jerusalem Post. The trip was a part of his recent European campaign to rally support against the Palestinian United Nations statehood recognition bid, scheduled for September 20th.

Speaking at a press conference, Ayalon urged European nations as "great supporters of the Palestinian Authority to show leadership and guide the Palestinians back to the negotiating table and avoid other ploys to bypass negotiations."

Ayalon praised Hungary for maintaining good relations with Israel, taking an active role in fighting anti-Semitism, and encouraged the government in Budapest to continue to act strongly against extremist elements in Hungary.
