Hungary seeks clarification from Germany on immigration policy

History

"If we donʼt succeed in fairly distributing refugees, then of course the Schengen question will be on the agenda for many," German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced at a conference in Berlin, news portalrt.com reported yesterday.

This statement came following Hungary’s request for clarification regarding the legalities on refugees traveling within the European Union, the portal noted. According to Hungarian spokesman András Giro-Szász, under Schengen rules, refugees are only permitted to leave Hungary if they have valid travel documents and a visa for their destination country.

Germany has been more lax about migrants traveling in the European Union, but deny claims that there are “special trains” to transport refugees from Hungary to Germany, the portal reports. According to Merkel, all refugees arriving in Hungary must seek asylum there before moving further into Europe, rt.com adds.
