Hungary, Germany ink bilateral cooperation agreement
Hungarian Foreign Minister Kinga Göncz and visiting German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier signed a bilateral agreement on the exchange of civil servants and on cooperation in administrative work.
Steinmeier, who also met Hungarian Premier Ferenc Gyurcsány, described as very good the state of diplomatic relations between Berlin and Budapest. He noted that Hungarian diplomats were working under the aegis of Germany in Afghanistan and 15 further places, with the accord signed on Monday to help manage such cooperation.
On international issues, Steinmeier said the European Union now faced a „great test” ahead in the Kosovo issue. He said Germany valued the fact that Hungary, as a neighbor to the Balkan region, had „great expertise” which Germany, as a member of the EU-US-Russia troika for Kosovo, would call on.
The Berlin minister said he regretted that the UN Security Council had been unable to come to a final resolution agreement on the future status of Kosovo. But he said the world's major powers were in agreement that Kosovo should „not be left on its own” in deciding the issue. „We all have responsibility in this,” Steinmeier said. (expatica.com)
