Hungarian farm minister discusses cooperation with Japan

History

Hungary’s Minister of Agriculture Sándor Fazekas met Japan’s deputy farm minister Hiromichi Matsushima at the Grune Woche farm expo in Berlin on Friday, Hungarian news agency MTI reported today.

According to the news agency the two parties discussed possible cooperation in researching varieties of cherries and fast-growing rice, and they also agreed on the establishment of a joint gene bank and on cooperation in veterinary education on the benefit of both countries.

Japan is Hungaryʼs biggest market for farm exports in Asia, MTI said, adding that exports to Japan of pork from mangalitsa hogs, a prized Hungarian breed, came to €100 million last year.
