Govt did not cut 2012 growth projection - spokesman
Hungary’s government has not modified its 1.5% GDP growth forecast for next year, but it is closely observing projections for growth in Europe, government spokesman András Giró-Szász said at a press conference on Thursday.
The government is assessing changes to growth projections for other European Union member states, but will wait until a possible official change of Germany’s growth projection for 2012, Giró-Szász.
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán asked National Economy Minister György Matolcsy to draw up a growth plan for the real economy and, if necessary, take decisions on Hungary’s 2012 growth projection based on this, he added. He did not reveal when the growth plan would be prepared.
Earlier, Hungarian business daily Napi Gazdaság reported, without identifying its source, that the government had lowered its projection to 0.9% GDP growth next year from 1.5% contained in the draft 2012 budget.
