Gov't says IMF delegation acknowledges economic improvements in Hungary

A delegation from the International Monetary Fund has acknowledged improvements in the Hungarian economy in a concluding statement following scheduled annual talks, the National Economy Ministry said on Friday.

"The IMF acknowledges in its resolution the successes of the Hungarian economy thus far: The strong pace of economic growth, the low general government deficit and the solution to the problems related to foreign currency-denominated loans," the ministry said. It noted that there were "naturally differences" between the government's goals and the IMF's assessment with regard to the precise value of some economic indicators and measures necessary in the future.

"At the same time, the IMF, too, believes goals set earlier by the government should be achieved: the further expansion of employment, maintaining fiscal discipline and steps to support economic growth," it added. The concluding statement referred to by the ministry was not immediately available on the website of the IMF.
