Gov't, employers agree on key convergence targets

History

The government and employers voiced agreement over the main objectives of the country's convergence program, Finance Minister János Veres told reporters following a meeting with employers' representatives on Thursday.

”There is a basic agreement that the main targets for 2009 must be met,” Veres said. He added that the government would incorporate several suggestions made by the employers in the convergence program, but declined to elaborate on the actual proposals.
Veres reiterated the government's position that the balance of the national economy could be restored by 2009 and that Hungary's joining the eurozone two years later was a realistic objective.
