Gov’t decides on ring rail line for Budapest

History

The government has decided on the construction of a ring rail line around the capital, state secretary for foreign affairs and external economic relations Péter Szijjártó said on Wednesday. The 113-kilometer line, dubbed “V0,” will be built by the end of 2017, allowing freight trains to travel in both directions at 160 km/h around Budapest, Szijjártó said. The government is still considering whether it would be more advantageous to tap development financing from the China Development Bank or use European Union funding, he added.
