Germany, Denmark agree to build bridge
Germany and Denmark have clinched a deal to build a bridge across the Baltic Sea that could significantly cut travel time between Copenhagen and Hamburg, local reports said Friday.
The bridge, with a span of about 20 kilometers linking the German island of Fehmarn and Danish island of Lolland, is due to be completed within 10 to 12 years, German news agency DPA reported.
The bridge would “not only significantly cut journey times ... but also is of high value for transport routes in Europe as a whole,” said German Transport Minister Wolfgang Tiefensee. The road and rail bridge is expected to cost about €5.5 billion (7.4 billion $). (english.people.com.cn)
