First rebuilt bridge over Ipoly inaugurated

History

The first reconstructed bridge over the Ipoly River connecting Hungarian and Slovakia was inaugurated on Tuesday.

The governments of Hungary and Slovakia agreed in the autumn of 2005 to rebuild bridges spanning the Ipoly that had been destroyed in WWII, said Hungary's state secretary for infrastructure Pál Völner. The last six years are proof of the difficulty of undertaking the task, he added.

The bridge connects Nógrádszakál-Rárospuszta, in Hungary, with the Slovakian town of Ráros.

Talks are underway on rebuilding more bridges over the Ipoly, Völner said.
