Eurozone entry may happen in 2013 according to Reuters poll

History

Analysts in a poll published by Reuters yesterday said Hungary would adopt the euro in 2013, well past the government's 2010 target. Six of twelve analysts in the poll said Hungarians would join the eurozone in 2013. The other six were equally divided over a euro adoption date in 2012 and 2014. None of the analysts thought the government's 2010 target date was achievable. The analyst’s forecast for the fiscal deficit was lower than the government's projection for the first time in years. They put the general government deficit at an unadjusted 8.5% of GDP in 2006 and at 5.6% of GDP in 2007. Adjusted for the effect of pension reform, the analysts projected a deficit of 7% of GDP in 2006 and 4.7% of GDP in 2007, under the government's respective targets of 8% and 5%.
