Czech Repbulic, Poland to cooperate within Visegrád group
The Czech Republic and Poland are discussing the possibility of establishing a joint battle group within the Visegrád Four (V4) group, Czech military chief of staff Vlastimil Picek said in Prague Monday.
„We discussed the year 2015. An earlier date is impossible for time reasons,” Gagor said after meeting his Polish counterpart Franciszek Gagor. The Visegrád Group was formed in 1991 in Visegrád, Hungary by Poland, Czechoslovakia and Hungary, with the aim to strengthen cooperation among member countries. Czechoslovakia was divided in December 1992 into the Czech Republic and Slovakia, both of which are members of the Visegrád Group.
During their meeting Monday, Picek and Gagor also discussed other possible military cooperation between the two countries, including joint training of pilots and their possible cooperation at the military training center in Poland, where the Czech Republic’s L-159 subsonic combat aircraft could fly. The Czech military is the only army to have bought the L-159s. In 1972, it ordered 72 such home-made planes and later decided that the country would not need so many subsonic planes and would only keep 24 of them. It has been trying to sell the other aircraft since then. (people.com)
