Central-local gov't coordination forum opens

Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány opened the first session of negotiations between the central administration and local and regional governments on Thursday.
Minister for Local Governments Mónika Lamperth will head the regular consultations and set the agenda. In 2007, tabled tasks include creating the legislative background for regional governments, developing co-operation with local councils and dealing with sub-regional issues, Lamperth said.
Finance Minister János Veres told the forum that through amendments to the 2007 budget, funding for local governments had been raised by Ft 4.2 billion (€18.43 million), a 8.5% increase. Senior officials from many different types of local government associations attended the meeting.
